Day 12 HOMS

Who might these three women be in the novella?
Do Now: What was the most challenging part of writing the practice paragraph? The least challenging?

Today's Learning Target:
I will be able to describe how Esperanza resolves a major conflict, engages in a courageous act, and learns a lesson towards the end of The House on Mango Street.
I will know that I have hit the learning target when...
-I can point to specific examples of resolving conflicts, engaging in courageous acts, and learning lessons.
-I can describe at least one trait of Esperanza's that helped her to accomplish all of these things.

Agenda:
  1. Finishing the class-composed paragraph
  2. The House on Mango Street's closing chapters
  3. Checking-in with Essential Questions and Archetypes
    • The hero wrestles with his/her conscience, and this inner conflict brings about a change in how the hero views the world.
    • The hero engages in a courageous act of some kind. (Often, this marks the climax of the story.)
    • There is a “coming-of-age” or a lesson learned.  From this point on, the hero will follow his/her own conscience.

Homework: Consult your T-chart that compares and contrasts Esperanza with your summer reading book protagonist. Make an inference from your three similarities and three differences. You will use this graphic organizer for an in-class writing assignment on Friday.
PLEASE SET UP A REMINDER TO BRING YOUR OUTSIDE READING BOOK TO CLASS DURING EVERY TRIPLE (MONDAY FOR INDIGO AND WEDNESDAY FOR GREEN)
