Day 8 Poetry

Do Now: What was the most challenging part of writing your imitation poem? The easiest part?

Today's Learning Target: 
I will be able to define conceit and apply the definition to poems we read in class.
I will know that I have hit the learning target when...
-I can explain what a conceit is in my own words.
-I can read and annotate poems that are conceits and explain what their extended metaphors are and how the comparison sheds new light on the subject.

  1. Sharing our imitation poems
  2. Poetry as metaphor: Conceits
  3. Exploring extended metaphors
HW: read and annotate "The Fish." Include your thoughts on who the speaker is, what the situation is, and what poetry devices you notice. Also, write at least one discussion question that you can share with the class.
