Day 3 Poetry

Do Now: Tell a neighbor about the speaker and the situation in the poem you found from poets.org. What is one thing in the poem that makes you say, "Wow!" or "What's happening here?"

Today's Learning Target:
I will be able to recognize "special effects" or literary devices that poets use to make their work more memorable.
I will know that I have hit the learning target when...
-I can describe the language we can use to have a meaningful discussion about poetry.
-I can locate at least two literary devices in our poem of the day and explain how they make the poem more memorable.

Agenda:

  1. Sharing our poems
  2. Special Effects
  3. "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening"
HW: read and annotate Seamus Heaney's "Digging." Write about who the speaker is, what the situation is, and one line or stanza that you have a question about or notice a "special effect" in.
